Fun fact, while Belgium is pretty close to the Netherlands, Belgians and Dutch people don’t mix at all.

Isn’t part of Belgium’s population feeling very french and the other part rather German?

So it’s also simultaneously Waffle day, right?
Yes, I’m aware that “Belgian Waffles” aren’t from Belgium.

I don’t know. The Belgians and northern French don’t get along that well either. Now for some reason, the Dutch and northern French do get along quite well.

Happy national day! Have a Karoserie O. Uhlik bodied Belgian Imperia.

LOL, no. Wallonia is the French-speaking south. Flanders is the Dutch (Flemish) speaking north. The tensions exist between those two groups. The North wants to secede and become part of the Netherlands but it likely won’t happen.

Yes they are. Look up “gaufre Leigeois” versus “gaufre Bruxelles.” Then cover them in Nutella and get back to me :)

As long as I don't have to drink a Belgian beer (I'm really not a fan of the stuff).

Huh, I assumed there was a “German” part because people like Thierry Neuville speak near-perfect german or something, but I didn’t know the tension is all between Flemish and Wallonian ethnic groups.

Better go edit the Wiki then.
What is known in North America as the ‘Belgian waffle’ does not exist in Belgium. No single type of waffle is identified as a ‘Belgian waffle’ within Belgium itself, where there are a number of different varieties, including the Brussels waffle and the Liège waffle .

I’ve tried most Chimays, Leffes, Hoegaardens and Orvals (about 30-40). I know it’s not many in the whole scheme of things but they are the most readily available ones in U.K. shops.
Give me a Dutch Grolsch Herfst Bok (or several) and I’ll be your friend for life. I love the stuff, the only thing other than Dutch Frikandels (not German, but Dutch sausage like ones) I miss from living in the Nederlands.

Fair enough. You sampled enough to get a general idea.

At our place we sell maybe 300-400 different beers and often have 4 for £5 offers so I try to mix it up a little and see if I can find something a little different I may like from the norm.

Always a good plan. I've got some places like that nearby. I sample a bunch of different things but I always gravitate to the popular varieties in Bavaria (either imported or locally brewed the quality is about the same).

I usually draw the line at raspberry flavoured beers and arty-farty raspberry and elderflower ciders and the like and these:
It's getting a little crazy now.

Just to add to the confusion, there’s a corner of Belgium that’s German.
